Prince William took to his official Instagram on Saturday, October 4, 2025, to celebrate the halfway point of his Earthshot project. In the video, the Prince of Wales highlights the importance of his ambitious mission. According to Prince William, the quick growth of his children elevates the urgency of the fight against climate change.

“I sat under this oak tree five years ago, soon after we launched The Earthshot Prize. The planet, the only home we have, needed our help. The scientists made it clear that we had to make significant changes by 2030,” he began in the short film.

He continued:

“Back then, a decade felt like a long time. George was seven, Charlotte five and Louis two; the thought of them in 2030 felt a lifetime away. But today, as we stand halfway through this critical decade, 2030 feels very real.”

Prince William is the father of three children- Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

More details on Prince William’s Earthshot project

Prince William launched the Earthshot project five years ago to tackle the core environmental issues of our planet and offer five solutions before 2030, including Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-free World, and Fix Our Climate.

According to the Earthshot official website, the project:

“Supports and celebrates those who turn bold ideas into solutions for our planet.”

It continued:

The world faces its greatest challenge: to regenerate the place we all call home during this decade. We search the globe for game-changing examples of climate leadership and innovation, helping them to grow and awarding the very best five solutions each year with £1 million each to scale their work.”

Prince William’s Earthshot project works with experienced nominators who go through several ideas and select fifteen finalists, of which five winners are chosen, one for each Earthshot solution. From 2020, over five thousand solutions have been considered, seventy-five finalists selected, and twenty winners awarded.
