Robert Irwin was pleasantly surprised by Prince William's video call, making an appearance on Dancing With The Stars. The DWTS contestant sat with his dance partner, Whitney Carson, while they accepted a call from the Prince of Wales. The royal was still in Mexico for the Earthshot Prize tour, and can be heard on the call saying to Irwin:

"I need you down here," after playfully teasing him, and calling Robert "twinkle toes."

The Prince of Wales also talked to Whitney Carson, who was sitting next to Robert, saying:

"You need to get him in as much glitter as you can."

Prince William continued to wish Robert and Whitney the best of luck with their future performances on Dancing With The Stars, even saying that Robert and Whitney have a chance of winning the entire thing.

He said:

"You guys have got a serious good chance of winning... Best of luck on the show."

This boosted Irwin's confidence, while a shocked Carson said:

"I can’t believe he just said my name."

Robert Irwin, determined after hearing the positive words from Prince William, said to his dance partner:

"Let’s not mess this up!"

How are Prince William and Robert Irwin associated?

Prince William is the founder of the Earthshot Prize, which is a global environmental prize given to five winners for their contributions to the environment. The first prize was awarded in 2021.

Robert Irwin, a conservationist, wildlife photographer, and the son of Steve Irwin, was named as one of the ambassadors for the Earthshot Prize in 2024, alongside South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha.

This is what Irwin had to say after he was chosen as one of the ambassadors. He said in a statement:

"The Earthshot Prize is a beacon of hope for all of us who care about the environment and about our ability to ensure a livable future for ourselves and future generations. Healthy oceans, ecosystems, and species equal a healthy planet, and The Earthshot Prize recognizes the importance of investing in and helping grow solutions that protect these critical resources.

He added, highlighting how special it is for him to be one of the first ambassadors for the prize, saying:

"I'm honored to join Nomzamo as the first Earthshot Global Ambassadors to help place a brighter spotlight on the inspiring changemakers saving the planet."

Robert Irwin was supposed to join Prince William in Rio De Janeiro for the Earthshot Prize tour, but is unable to because of his commitments to filming Dancing With The Stars competition.
