Stephen Colbert has become the latest celebrity to voice his support for Jimmy Kimmel. During Thursday night’s taping of The Late Show, Colbert spoke with conviction, declaring that he stood firmly by Kimmel’s side.

“Tonight, we are all Jimmy Kimmel,” he began his monologue, which was wholly dedicated to Jimmy.

Jimmy’s show was suspended indefinitely after his commentary on Charlie Kirk’s death. Stephen described the incident as “blatant censorship.”

“Yesterday, after threats from Trump’s FCC chair, ABC yanked Kimmel off the air indefinitely. That is blatant censorship,” he added. “With an autocrat, you cannot give an inch.”

In reply to FCC chairman Brendan Carr, Colbert stressed the importance of freedom of speech while condemning what he called a “blatant assault on free speech.”

“Well, you know what my values are, buster? Freedom of speech. People across the country are shocked about this blatant assault on free speech.”

He added:

“To Jimmy, let me just say I stand with you and your staff 100%.”

More celebrities who have supported Jimmy Kimmel

Following the announcement of Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension, numerous celebrities have rallied behind Jimmy Kimmel to show their support. Popular actress Jean Smart wrote on Instagram:

“I am horrified at the cancellation of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’ What Jimmy said was FREE speech, not hate speech. People seem to only want to protect free speech when it suits THEIR agenda. Though I didn’t agree at ALL with Charlie Kirk, his shooting death sickened me, and should have sickened any decent human being. What is happening to our country?”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris wrote on X:

“What we are witnessing is an outright abuse of power. This administration is attacking critics and using fear as a weapon to silence anyone who would speak out. Media corporations — from television networks to newspapers — are capitulating to these threats. “We cannot dare to be silent or complacent in the face of this frontal assault on free speech. We, the People, deserve better.

FCC member Anna Gomez tweeted:

“An inexcusable act of political violence by one disturbed individual must never be exploited as justification for broader censorship and control. This Administration is increasingly using the weight of government power to suppress lawful expression.”

Former President Barack Obama wrote on X:

“After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.”
