Legendary Hollywood actor and filmmaker Robert Redford died in his sleep at his home in Sundance, Utah, on September 16, aged 89. Cindi Berger, the chief executive of his publicity firm, Rogers & Cowan PMK, announced his death to The New York Times, saying the Ordinary People director died "in the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved."

Berger added, "He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy." The official cause of death wasn’t revealed.

In the aftermath of his demise, Robert’s grandson, Conor Schlosser, 33, paid tribute to his grandfather via Instagram on Tuesday. Conor is the son of Shauna Redford, the elder daughter of Robert Redford, and her husband, Eric Schlosser.

“He was larger than life to the world, but to his family, he was simply that… family. Rest in peace, Grandpa. If anyone has a favorite story of him you’d like to share, please send it to me in a private message—I’d love to collect them,” Conor wrote.

The emotional post was accompanied by a carousel of pictures of Robert Redford and his grandson, including one where they are riding on a horse, opening a gift while sitting on a couch, and playing golf.

Redford’s other grandchildren, including Lena Redford, the daughter of his late son David James “Jamie” Redford, also honored her grandfather on social media.

According to Newsweek, Shauna Redford is the third of the four children of Robert Redford and his first wife, Lola Van Wagenen, a historian and activist. However, she is his eldest surviving child, a painter by profession. Her middle name is Jean, and she was born in November 1960.

Shauna attended the University of Colorado Boulder and lives a private life with her husband, Eric Matthew Schlosser, a journalist and author best known for his 2001 book Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal. They tied the knot in October 1985 at her parents’ home in Provo, Utah, as per the New York Times.

Eric Schlosser’s father is Herbert S. Schlosser, the former president and CEO of NBC and the executive vice president of RCA. His mother, Judith Schlosser, was the vice chairman of the Martha Graham Center in New York.
