Actress Vicky Krieps was at the ongoing Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF), alongside other stars including Dakota Johnson, and she discussed her interest in directing a feature film. Krieps, who won the President's Award at the festival, then went on to discuss bits about her life, which, according to her, wasn't really cool, contrary to what fans may believe.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, she told the press,
"It’s true. Of course, I’m challenging people’s ideas because they think I am cool, because I’m an actor and I do what I want, I say my opinion, and that’s cool. But the truth is, it’s a journey. And when I started my journey, like all of us, and I went to school, I was not cool. In high school, I wasn’t bullied, I wasn’t expelled from school, but I never managed to fit in. Yet, I didn’t try to be different."
She also shared a fun story from her school days where her fellow students would think that she was into girls. Then, Vicky Krieps turned the conversation toward social media, which often delivers misinformation about a celebrity.
Krieps also reflected on how she avoids digital distractions, indicating how free-spirited she is. The actress says she doesn't have a thing for the number of likes on her posts and doesn't care about what netizens think.
Vicky Krieps is all about instincts

Even as an actor, Vicky Krieps doesn't like to be pretentious while facing the camera. In an interview she gave to The Talks, where she discussed her film, The Dead Don't Hurt, she said,
"If you're an artist, if you're an actor, a writer, a painter, it takes courage to listen to this little voice that comes from really deep down, that tells you to go with your instinct in a scene, to do it without asking someone if they think it’s right."
In The Dead Don't Hurt, Vicky Krieps portrayed Vivienne Le Coudy, an independent woman who lives by her rules but struggles in a cruel world. Viggo Mortensen, who also directed the movie, played Holger Olsen opposite her. The film was a critical success and currently sits with an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Tim Miller wrote in a review for Cape Cod Wave Magazine,
"The whole cast is outstanding, but Krieps... stands out with her nuanced performance as a strong woman trying to hold her own in an unmerciful world dominated by men. Despite this setting, though, Mortensen is able ... to find beauty amid the violence."
The actress has given several other mesmerizing performances, too. Her breakthrough came in Paul Thomas Anderson's 2017 film, Phantom Thread. Vicky Krieps was nominated for Best Actress by the Chicago Film Critics Association. Additionally, that film was nominated in different categories at the 90th Academy Awards.
Her other performances that have garnered critical praise include Hold Me Tight (2021) and Corsage (2022). She was recently seen in Hot Milk and Love Me Tender (both released in 2025) and will appear in Jim Jarmusch's anthology film Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, which doesn't have a release date yet.
