Veteran actor Amy Madigan, who appeared in the iconic role of Aunt Gladys in Weapons, recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter. In the interview, when she was asked about her return as the same character in a potential prequel of the horror film, the 75-year-old star mentioned:

“I’d love to live inside Zach’s brain again, but we’ll see if that happens.”

Madigan's portrayal of Alex's diabolical aunt Gladys has won hearts everyone. In fact, she emerged into a legendary figure as well, as Gladys flamboyant look became a hot favorite of this year's Halloween parties.

Helmed by Zach Cregger, the film explores the case of a sudden disappearance of multiple children from one class during one bizarre night, that too at the exact same time. Upon its release, the film received rave reviews by critics and audiences alike. It went on to receive an excellent Rotten Tomatoes score of 93% and a rating of 7.5/10 on IMDb.

Weapons: Amy Madigan's Aunt Gladys is a force to be reckoned with

Amy Madigan's response in the interview about her appearance in the potential prequel of Weapons reveals two things. One is, Madigan is undoubtedly eager to step into the shoes of Aunt Gladys again. And secondly, there is no confirmation of whether she will appear in the prequel or not.

In an October report from The Wrap, it was revealed that Gladys' story was initially planned to be included in Weapons. But later things changed, as director Zach Cregger felt it could stretch the film's duration. So now, after the overwhelming success of the film, Cregger is in the process of evolving a distinct film exploring Gladys' story.

However, when asked about if that film could ruin the enigma of the character, Cregger explained:

“It’s crossed my mind. But I think that the Gladys story is such an interesting story that I think it’s going to feel very separate and stand on its own two feet, and I don’t think it’s going to diminish Weapons. The thrill of my life to see Amy and what’s been going on with all of this has been so great. I can only hope that there’s a lot of Halloween Gladyses out there."

Going by his response, we can certainly hope for a grand return of Amy Madigan as Aunt Gladys in the possible prequel. After all, in Weapons, she was the one who was behind all the chaos. Gladys is revealed to be a witch in the film, who has been controlling Alex's parents with her voodoo. She then proceeds to cause the disappearance of his classmates as well.

Towards the end, Aunt Gladys meets her own end as she is hunted and persecuted by those same spellbound children. As she dies, the spell is shattered.

Amy Madison's work in Weapons has given the actor a newfound triumph in her career. In that interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Golden-Globe-winning actor candidly expresses how she feels portraying such a fierce, compelling character. She says:

“I was telling everybody, ‘Hey, I’m going to play this really wild lady,’ Then it came out, and it turned into something else. It feels very antithetical to the work that I do and how I live my life.”

Madison further talks about the socio-political and cultural impact Gladys' character has created, especially within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. As she mentions:

“As you very well know, the gay community has really taken to Gladys. That’s really great — especially in this framework of the demonization of anybody other than a cis person — for the trans community. I think they really appreciate Gladys’ drag and makeup and how confident she is. So that’s a really nice cherry on top of all this.”
