"I look nothing like her": Tate McRae on why she might not star in Britney Spears biopic

Tate McRae recently addressed the speculation about her possible role in the Britney Spears biopic during an interview with Rolling Stone, putting fans' rumors to rest.

When asked by the host if she has thought of starring in a Britney Spears biopic after fans said they'd love to see her in that role, Tate McRae replied:

"I don't really act like I need to take an acting lesson before you even consider ever doing anything. Also, I feel like I look nothing like her or sound nothing like her. So I don't know if I'd be a great fit."

While Tate McRae gave a straightforward answer, the internet reacted with mixed opinions, where some felt she resembled Britney, while others were more critical of the idea.

Tate McRae opens up on being compared to Britney Spears

In a past interview with the Independent, Tate McRae opened up about being compared to Britney Spears. Answering the question, she said:

"I find that flattering and scary. It’s such a crazy statement because no one can compare to Britney Spears. It’s like comparing someone to Michael Jackson! That’s the blueprint!"

As of now, the actor playing Britney Spears in the biopic has not been announced. The biopic is being directed by Jon M. Chu. After the news of the biopic was confirmed, many rumors suggested that Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, and Millie Bobby Brown could be the potential actors to play the role.

Chu, putting the rumors to rest, wrote on his X:

"None of this is true. Sounds exciting but have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet. We are way too early in development. Sorry 🤷🏻"

Speaking of the biopic and Britney Spears, in a statement reported by Esquire, the director said:

"She did what she had to do to survive. She deserves a story that honors that. Now that she has her freedom, what does freedom actually cost? And what does that look like? What can we do most to encourage her to be free and not try to turn her into whatever we want her to be?"

Last year, Chu told The Hollywood Reporter that they are still in the early stages, with the storyline not finalized and a writer not on board yet. As of now, the biopic has not confirmed updates with its casting, and the release date is yet to be announced.

It is based on Britney Spears' memoir titled The Woman in Me.
