Superman director James Gunn recently addressed the concerns of some Zack Snyder fans, who were upset about the creative overhaul in the DC universe and were looking forward to more DC projects from Snyder.

Some "Snyderverse" fans were so passionate about their interest that they made a Reddit post urging people to "Stand up and fight for Snyderverse" by following a few steps. They wanted fellow Snyder fans to post negative reviews about Gunn's latest project, spoil it for others, and reserve tickets but not buy them.

On Threads, @watchallirish shared a screenshot of this inflammatory Reddit post and brought it to Gunn's notice. Gunn read it and responded as follows:

"Lol I think we'll survive. I'm not sure the eight people that listen to that guy (I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it's a guy) are going to impact the course of events."

Based on this response, Gunn doesn't believe this negative publicity will affect the box office prospects of Superman. Instead, his movie is expected to be a big success at the box office.

According to a recent report from Box Office Theory, Gunn's Superman is eyeing the biggest opening weekend collection of 2025 at the domestic market, earning somewhere between $ 154 M and $ 175 M. Some sources suggest that it is well on its way to surpassing A Minecraft Movie to have the highest weekend debut of 2025. So, Gunn's confidence in his project seems warranted.

Aside from Gunn, some DC fans also shared their reactions to the inflammatory Reddit post from the Snydervese fans.

Why do people love the Snyderverse so much?

Zack Snyder directed his first DC movie in 2013, which introduced Henry Cavill as Man of Steel. The movie was decidedly darker in tone, whether narrative or visual, which appealed to a section of the audience.

Snyder's subsequent projects in the DC universe, dubbed DCEU at the time, were also similarly gloomy and tense. They followed the hero's moral dilemmas and explored themes like justice, sacrifice, and fate in his distinct style. Apart from that, Snyder's movies were interconnected, and they usually followed a continuous chain of events.

Based on all these visual and thematic identifiers, the "Snyderverse" looked and felt different from the other superhero movies, especially from Marvel, which often approached their work in a light-hearted manner. They were funnier and rarely as dark as Snyder's DC movies.

With Superman, James Gunn is moving in another creative direction, which will make Superman easier to relate to. His interpretation of the hero is supposed to be more comic-accurate than the previous adaptations. That's why some DC fans are invested in what he brings to the table. However, some Snyder fans are far from pleased.

Zack Snyder fans were hoping to see more DC movies from their favorite director, but with the creative overhaul, that seems unlikely. So, to get their voices heard, some fans created the aforementioned Reddit post. However, some DC fans don't think Gunn's Superman adaptation deserves such a strong negative response. That's why they responded to the inflammatory post by saying,

"Let’s be honest. James and Zack are friends. I loved Zack’s movies and I will probably love James Gunn movies! I love both James and Zack."

Another user wrote,

"I have been a Snyder fan and loved his movies but I am a comic book fan and I hate when fans become toxic to the extent that it defeats the purpose. It doesn't make any sense."

Another Snyder fan also shared their opinion, saying,

"As a Snyder fan, that’s trash. Let people enjoy the movie. Absolutely wishing no malice, we had a good run with DCEU"

James Gunn's Superman is scheduled to be out in theaters on July 11, 2025.
