MrBeast recently changed his profile picture to a picture of the character Luffy from the anime One Piece. This apparently did not sit well with One Piece fans, who were quick to call out the media personality. Now, MrBeast has responded to the backlash on a livestream, stating:

"Holy sh*t. One piece fanbase can be so toxic. They're like constantly like "he's not actually watching it, he's just trying to latch on to our anime to milk us for audience." Let me say something: And its probably for negative for me to say this. But I've seen more anime than all you clowns with your anime pnps on Twitter out there."

The YouTuber continued:

"I have. Go dig through my Twitter. I've got 'Guardians of Galactic Heroes'. I was tweeting about that sh*t in 2019. Six seven years ago. I've been tweeting about anime since before some of you motherf*****s were born. Okay, so first off, back off. Call me a phony for trying to bandwagon on One Piece for attention. Y'all are crazy. I've watched all 700 hundred episodes of Naruto. I've watched.. its ridiculous."

It is to be noted that there is no anime called 'Guardians of the Galactic Heroes'. The anime MrBeast seems to be referencing is actually called The Legend of the Galactic Heroes, which released its latest version, Die Neue These, in 2018. A search with the name Guardians of the Galactic Heroes on Google or Copilot search takes one to The Legend Of The Galactic Heroes search page.

The backlash that MrBeast was around the belief from One Piece fans that it was some kind of marketing strategy by Netflix or some other form of corporate ploy.

MrBeast's interest in One Piece is not unprecedented, with the YouTuber clearly having some interest in animation and cartoons beforehand. In recent months, he launched the Beast animations YouTube channel, which has been releasing short-form animations where he and his animated crew fight aliens in the form of shadow monsters.

The series of shorts has so far had one season of 10 episodes, with more likely to come in the near future. The episodes have been well-received, with the first episode having nearly 7 million views.
