A new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps was screened at CineEurope 2025 during the Disney presentation on June 18, 2025. There, Marvel's Kevin Feige revealed key details about the MCU, including an untitled MCU movie scheduled to release in cinema halls across the world on December 15, 2028.

At the CineEurope stage, Feige also confirmed that the post-credit scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps would set up the events that would unfold in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to release on December 18, 2026. This was backed up by a Deadline report published on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

Feige's comments suggest that the MCU is slowly moving towards the old formula, where the post-credit stinger directly led to the next project. The first time this was hinted at was in the post-credit scene of Thunderbolts*/The New Avengers, which marked the MCU debut of Marvel's First Family, or the Fantastic Four, setting up the events of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Thunderbolts*/The New Avengers' and The Fantastic Four: First Steps take inspiration from the early MCU phases

The post-credit scene of *Thunderbolts/The New Avengers sets up Marvel's First Family's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. In that scene, we learn that the events of the rest of the movie occurred two years ago. It seems that the characters of Thunderbolts*/The New Avengers, including Bob, are a government-approved Avengers team named The New Avengers.

The team is talking about their beef with the "OG" Avengers led by Sam Wilson's Captain America. When Yelena Belova asks the AI to scan the space for any anomalies, the screen shows the team of a ship with the logo "4". This means that the ship in question belongs to the Fantastic Four, who manage to escape the possible destruction of their Earth, setting up The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

A few weeks ago, rumors swarmed the internet that the post-credit stinger at the end of The Fantastic Four: First Steps will set up Avengers: Doomsday by showing viewers a masked/unmasked Doctor Doom on the screen. However, it must be noted that, as of now because the source of this rumor claimed to have attended a test screening of First Steps.

What will First Steps be about?

Apart from being Marvel's First Family's long-awaited return in the MCU, First Steps promises to be better than the previous three adaptations of the characters. Furthermore, the movie is set in a completely different Earth than the mainline MCU Earth (Earth-616/Earth-19999) we have followed since 2008.

Moreover, Marvel Studios has taken a cue from Peyton Reed's idea and finally set a Fantastic Four movie that's set in the 1960s. This version of Marvel's First Family is part of a retro-futuristic Earth where they are supposedly the only heroes. Everything seems fine until Galactus marks this Earth for mysterious reasons.

"Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' introduces Marvel’s First Family — Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet."

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled to release in cinema halls across the world on July 25, 2025.
