One of the most eagerly awaited peeks into the next big chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was recently unveiled, with an image of Paul Rudd and the Russo Brothers on the Avengers: Doomsday set appearing at Destination D23. This behind-the-scenes photo immediately went viral through the Marvel fanbase, fueling the hype and anticipation for the upcoming iteration.

On August 29 and 30, 2025, the entertainment world was abuzz after a long-awaited sneak peek from Avengers: Doomsday was unveiled at the D23 Expo. The picture was shared mostly via social media among Marvel fans and comic book circles.
The photograph represents a candid moment from the shooting of a significant installment of the MCU, with shooting being confirmed to have begun earlier this year at Pinewood Studios in England.
Interestingly, Paul Rudd and the Russo Brothers recorded a video message on the set of Avengers: Doomsday for the attendees of D23. According to a Reddit thread, at one point in the video, Paul Rudd interrupted the message of the Russo Brothers by playfully blocking the camera, and as such, no information about the plot or specific discussions concerning the film was shared.
This light-hearted scene was rather meant to give fans a tease than to offer some substantial information about what the movie is all about. In addition to this rare on-camera moment, the relatively brief contents of the video message have been made public on a number of MCU-related social media pages. Rudd was quoted by an X page in one of these posts as saying:
“We’re surrounded by jaw dropping sets and some truly incredible talent, many of who you just saw teased in that great video. Bringing this story to the big screen means the world to us and we couldn’t do it without your support.”
Avengers: Doomsday and its place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Avengers: Doomsday is a landmark event in the MCU, directed by the Russo Brothers, who directed the previous movies such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The film is scheduled to release in December 2026. Its production is based in the UK at Pinewood Studios and other locations, including Bahrain and the Windsor Great Park.
The plot revolves around a multiverse threat that can destroy whole realities and unites the Avengers, Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, and original X-Men in an alliance like never before.
Paul Rudd returns as Ant-Man, and the star-studded cast also includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, among many others.
The Russos are directing this movie with a screenplay by Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron. It is reportedly a continuation of the plot of the Multiverse Saga that is presumed to reach its climax in the 2027 film Avengers: Secret Wars.
The production details have been under tight wraps, and effort has been put to ensure that no information gets out with the use of soundstages and strategic choice of filming locations to reduce the paparazzi impact.
The Russos have underlined the scale of Avengers: Doomsday, its depth, and how hard it was to make a new chapter that would be worthy of the predecessor movie in the flagship series of the MCU. Earlier, in a conversation with The Sunday Times, Anthony Russo stated:
“Yes, the MCU has got quite large, that’s for sure. I mean, frankly, we struggle with that same issue. But part of the reason Joe and I decided to go back is exactly what you’re talking about. There needs to be more of a central narrative. That was something we were very specific about when we worked with Marvel [before]. We would like to bring the focused narrative back.”
