Iowa Film Critics Association (IFCA) Awards: Complete list of winners explored

The Iowa Film Critics Association has officially announced its award winners for this year. The winners list features some notable literary adaptations, studio projects, and more.

Iowa Film Critics Association Awards' 2024 winners were as follows,

• Best Film: Anora
• Best Director: Sean Baker: Anora
• Best Actor: Adrien Brody: The Brutalist
• Best Actress: Mikey Madison: Anora
• Best Supporting Actor: Kieran Culkin: A Real Pain
• Best Supporting Actress: Ariana Grande: Wicked, Isabella Rossellini: Conclave
• Best Animated Film: The Wild Robot
• Best Foreign Language Film: The Seed of the Sacred Fig
• Best Original Song: Kiss the Sky: The Wild Robot

The Iowa Film Critics Association comprises members from cities and regions across the state, including Des Moines, Sioux City, Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and the Quad Cities. The 2025 winners list was dominated by Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, which took home Best Film and Best Director, while Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for her performance in the film.

The Life of Chuck earned Tom Hiddleston Best Actor and Mark Hamill Best Supporting Actor. Hamill's award was shared with his work in The Long Walk. Wicked: For Good also won two awards. Ariana Grande received Best Supporting Actress, and the film's track "The Girl in the Bubble" won Best Song.

A recent of Chloé Zhao on her approach to direction read,

"Directing is not intellectual. It is half the time intellectual and the other half of the decision is made by what is happening in your own body. You have got to be in your body to see how your body is reacting, not just how your mind is."

She also added,

"I have hit a lot of blocks in my career, some really massive ones, and yet whenever I stop fighting, relax into it, it always takes me to a place that later I will look back and go, of course, that is where I should go."
