Mel Owens has found himself in the middle of a controversy after passing a comment on the MGoBlue Podcast With Jon Jansen. The former NFL linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams, who is also the lead of The Golden Bachelor season 2, said in the podcast:

"They ask me, ‘What’s your preferences?’ So I just said 45 to 60, just being honest. And then we had lunch with the executive producer. I said, ‘You know, if they’re 60 or over, I’m cutting them."

The comment quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions online. Many fans called him out for being ageist, especially since Owens himself is 66. People reportedly pointed out the comment, saying it’s unfair for someone in their mid-sixties to openly dismiss women of the same age group while only wanting to date younger women.

Mel Owens is not currently married. However, he was previously married to Fabiana Pimentel. As reported by Swooon, the couple got divorced in 2020. The exact length of their marriage isn’t confirmed, as some sources say they were together for almost 18 years, while others say 25.

How many children do Fabiana Pimentel and Mel Owens have?

Mel Owens and his ex-wife, Fabiana Pimentel, have two sons together, Lucas and Andre, whom they co-parent with joint custody. Lucas was born in 2005, and Andre was born two years later in 2007. As per US Magazine, Mel Owens and his ex-wife had an age difference of nineteen years.

Considering Mel Owens is currently 66 years old and they had a 19-year age gap, Fabiana is likely around 47 years old.

A statement in a press release by Warner Bros. Discovery states:

"Life took an unexpected turn with the passing of his father and the end of his marriage, Owens channeled his energy into being the best father he could be, focusing on raising his sons and coaching their extracurricular sports teams."

However, the couple never publicly shared the reason for their divorce. Speaking of The Golden Bachelor, the press stated:

"Now, after several years as a devoted dad, Owens is ready to rediscover a love rooted in the simple joys of companionship - sharing life’s everyday moments, making plans for the future, and growing stronger together as a couple. As the Golden Bachelor, he’s eager to meet someone who shares this vision and finally find that perfect teammate he’s been waiting for in his golden years."

During the recent interview explaining his dating rules and passing ageist dating comments, Owens revealed he likes women who are:

"Fit because I’m staying in shape and work out and stuff."

He further added:

"And I told them, ‘Try to stay away from the artificial hips and the wigs, you know, that kind of stuff, right?"

The Golden Bachelor Season 2 is expected to premiere in the fall of 2025. The final release date is yet to be confirmed.
