Katie Thurston updated her Instagram story on Friday, September 26, to address rumours claiming she had passed away. Breaking down in tears, Katie shuts down those rumours, describing them as triggering.
“I literally wanted to take time away from social media, but then I was getting texts from people I don’t normally hear from, and then I got DMs from people, and everyone’s like, ‘Are you okay?’ And I've seen like this article like go round before, but something about tonight really f*cking pisses me off. It’s triggering, and I try to report it. There’s just nothing I can do. I just feel helpless. I’m just so mad, so mad right now.”
She asked her followers what she could do to prevent the spread of false information and negative rumours.
“If anyone works at Facebook [or] has any suggestion on what I can do, please tell me.”
More details on Katie Thurston’s death rumours
Katie Thurston revealed that rumours claiming she had died have been circulating on social media. On her Instagram story, Katie shared a Facebook post from a page, The Bachelor Nation Besties, which shared that the 34-year-old Bachelorette alum passed away.
The post read:
“SAD NEWS !! Former Bachelor member Katie Thurston has officially taken her last breath after nearly a year of fighting an aggressive form of cancer and at the time. See more in comments.”
Katie Thurston wrote over the post:
“Please report these people. They suck!! This is so triggering.”
After debunking the rumour on Friday, Katie shared a sarcastic video of herself in ‘heaven.’ She said:
“Good morning! It's me on the other side. I do just want to shout out Facebook for letting my friends, family, myself…know that I have passed on. But while I'm up here chilling with God, I do want to let you know that the funeral industry is very much like the wedding industry, and that there is an increased markup on the things that you need for your…maybe not so special occasion.”
She proceeded to make out to Titan Casket, a brand that she advertised sells its product directly to consumers.
“Anyway, I just want to let you know things are good, life is great up here, and I’ll see ya on the other side,” she concluded.
Katie Thurston was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in February 2025.
