Jackie Chan recently revealed that his stunt team is currently working on the action scenes from Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It is the latest MCU project, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, which brings Tom Holland back as the wall-crawling hero. He will be joined in the cast by his past co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon as MJ and Ned Leeds, respectively.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the latest collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures in their Spider-Man saga. However, it is the first time Jon Watts is not directing a franchise installment. Instead, Cretton is taking over the directorial duties, having already worked on Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021).

For the 2021 movie, Cretton reportedly worked with Jackie Chan's stunt team, and he is working with them again, according to the martial artist himself. Chan spoke with the Hong Kong outlet, HK01, where he addressed this topic. He recently visited Spider-Man: Brand New Day's production in England, reportedly happening at Pinewood Studios.

As per ComicBookMovie, Chan told HK01:

"I went to London and visited the set. My Jackie Chan Stunt Team was busy filming Spider-Man, and I was the action director for the Jackie Chan Stunt Team."

The actor further added:

"I went to watch their rehearsals, and the director was quite surprised to see me. I made sure he understood that they are part of my team!"

Destin Daniel Cretton, who is helming the next chapter in Spider-Man's life, has previously directed the Simu Li-starrer action-adventure drama that combined martial arts with Hollywood storytelling. At the time, Cretton spoke about some of his stylistic inspirations, including some martial arts classics of Jackie Chan.

Cretton told Fandango:

"Some of the other inspirations… every Jackie Chan movie ever made, the Ip Man series — there's a big inspiration from Jet Li's Tai-Chi Master, and, of course, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. There is a long list. I can not give enough props to Kung Fu Hustle, which is one of my favorites."

In an interview with Datebook, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day director spoke about working with Jackie Chan's team. He said:

"Some of my favorite action sequences can be described in just the setting, and the setting defines what the choreography can be. When we pitched the idea to our choreographers — Brad Allan and Andy Cheng were the primary choreographers for this sequence — they were both trained in Jackie Chan’s stunt team. So they come from that very clear physical comedy setup/payoff storytelling technique."

Cretton also revealed that the jacket stunt Simu Liu performed on the bus was "a straight nod to Jackie Chan from the stunt team of Jackie Chan." Considering Cretton's admiration for Chan's iconic work, Spider-Man: Brand New Day might also include similar nods to his work, depending on the need and scope for such scenes.

Cretton may not be the only one admiring Chan's work. According to ComicBookMovie.com, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day star, Tom Holland, is also paying tribute by doing the stunts himself. Chan told HK01:

"I heard the young man paid tribute to my films in a lot of action scenes and has done stunts by himself."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated to be released in the US theaters on July 31, 2026.
