Tom Holland's fourth solo outing as the MCU's webslinger was confirmed recently when Spider-Man: Brand New Day was announced this April. There is a lot of speculation about its story, but no solid plot is out yet. He first appeared as the titular Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (2016) before finally swinging his way through New York City.

However, his solo outing and the way he has established himself had a secret helping hand, Jon Bernthal, who recently reprised his role as the Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live in April 2025, where he discussed this. Bernthal said:

"We did [‘Pilgrimage’] about seven or eight years ago. That was where both Tom did his audition for ‘Spider-Man’ and I did my audition for ‘Punisher.’ We actually made each other’s audition tapes on that film."

You see, they both helped each other with their MCU roles. The fans will next see them together in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, The Odyssey, which will follow the return of the Ancient Greek King Odysseus, played by Matt Damon in the film, after the Trojan War.

Jon Bernthal's stone-cold vigilante will be there in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed this recently, with its release date being scheduled for July 31, 2026. Though it isn't clear how big this role will be in the fourth Spider-Man film.

The story also noted rumors about a dozen villains appearing in the film. While it is exciting to think about them joining hands to fend off evil, we must take those rumors with a grain of salt until any official announcement is made or a trailer is here for us.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be a part of Phase Six, which The Fantastic Four: First Steps will kick off on July 25, 2025. It is the only film left to be released this year. The release dates for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were postponed recently, and now the films will arrive on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027, respectively.

As of now, we have a roster for Avengers: Doomsday with twenty-seven names confirmed to be appearing in the film, but that doesn't include Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, and more are on the list. Hopefully, the missing names will be on the Secret Wars roster.

Additionally, Marvel has also planned a standalone feature for the Punisher, while the character is also set to return for Daredevil: Born Again's season two after making an appearance in the Charlie Cox-led show.

While Frank Castle is confirmed, it also increases hopes for Matt Murdock's (played by Cox) appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He has appeared as the webslinger's lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home already.

There is no way to find out what is officially cooking for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but it is expected to be a more grounded film focused on the streets of New York City, rather than our webslinger taking a swing across the multiverse.
