Jordan Peele’s HIM unable to overtake Demon Slayer at the box office

It seems that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle is ruling the box office, as it takes the number one place on the list. However, that makes HIM, a film from Jordan Peele's production house Monkeypaw, arrive at its second rank.

The Japanese animated film has, till now, garnered a total worldwide collection of a whopping $419,288,427, as recorded by Box Office Mojo.

However, the horror film HIM, which made its release just a week later, has managed to collect up to $6,511,921, as recorded by Numbers. As per reports, it is predicted that the film could garner a collection of $15 million during this weekend.

Analyzing the box office performances of Demon Slayer and HIM

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, upon its release on 12th September 2025, was welcomed with huge success. As per Box Office Mojo, the film opened with a massive $70,611,098.

As of now, the film has collected a total of $419,288,427. So, looking at its current numbers, the animated film is expected to collect $16 million in its second week. Because of that, it seems that it could experience a fall of 77% in its revenue next week.

Meanwhile, the horror film, HIM, is released next week, on 19th September 2025. Compared to Demon Slayer, this film had rather a lukewarm opening, up to $6,511,921. However, the film is expected to collect up to $15 million by its first weekend.

Looking at the present numbers of the film, the projection too has made a drop of 3%. In the beginning, HIM was predicted to collect $18 million, but now it has fallen to 15%.

The success of Demon Slayer is not limited to its commercial performance but also in its critical reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has scored a massive rating of 98% in both its Tomatometer and Popcornmeter ratings. It seems like both the critics and the audience are equally lauding the film. Its IMDb score is impressive as well, landing at 8.6/10. It also carries a CinemaScore rating of 'A.'

However, in the case of HIM, it seems that both critics and the audience are not too happy with the film. Its present RT score is 27%, and it also has a lukewarm rating of 5.5/10 on IMDb. As far as the audience is concerned, the film has fetched a low CinemaScore rating of C-, with its Popcornmeter score landing up to 57%.

HIM, helmed by Justin Tipping, follows the plot of a growing footballer who finds himself in a web of some unsettling and dark situations posed by his coach.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle is derived from the popular manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, the film is set in the Infinity Castle, where we witness the journey of Tanjiro and the Hashiras as they fight off the Upper Rank demons.

As it tops the list in terms of box office success, HIM comes in at its second position. After the horror film, the Colin Farrell-Margot Robbie starrer A Big, Beautiful Journey is in its third spot. And securing the fourth position, we have the Francis Lawrence directorial, The Long Walk.
