Josh Brolin reveals that he would return as Thanos if Marvel execs ever ask him to reprise this role.
The update comes from Brolin's recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he spoke about his latest theatrical release, Weapons. The psychological horror-thriller film follows Josh Brolin as a man investigating the sudden disappearance of many kids, which includes his son, leading him down a bizarre rabbit hole.
During the interview, Brolin touched upon many topics, including the roles he regrets losing and ones he would love to return to if asked. One of these roles was Thanos, the memorable villain from the MCU's Infinity Saga, who posed an existential threat to the world. He starred in two Avengers movies that are fondly remembered to date. It seems like Brolin also enjoyed his working experience on this project.
While speaking with Josh Horowitz, Brolin hinted that he would join the Avengers: Doomsday cast and crew in London in a heartbeat if asked to reprise his role. Addressing the Russo brothers, Brolin said,
"If they called me in London right now and said, 'Let's do this', I'd be like, 'I'll be there tomorrow'"
Josh Brolin recalls his experience of being cast in Marvel as Thanos and Cable
Josh Brolin might often be remembered by MCU fans for his performance as the Endgame villain. However, he was also part of another Marvel project around the same time. He played Cable in Deadpool 2, who starts his journey as an antagonist and evolves into an anti-heroic ally to the quick-witted and foul-mouthed hero.
The movie, backed by 20th Century Fox, came out in 2018, the same year Brolin starred as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. When speaking about the casting process, Brolin said,
"It was supposed to be like a cameo when it was first brought to me when I was doing the Everest movie. They brought me this huge bible [and said] it's going to be this little thing, for 10 minutes or something. Then it changed and turned into this whole thing."
MCU's tentpole was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, where Josh Brolin co-starred with Robert Downey Jr., then playing his nemesis, Iron Man. The Russos are set to make a grand return with Avengers: Doomsday, currently being filmed in London. Downey Jr. is also returning to the universe as Doctor Doom. In line with this, Brolin said he would be down to return as Thanos if asked.

Brolin had nothing but good things to say about the Russos, who will try to revive the MCU's good ol' days from the Infinity Saga. The actor believes that the duo can come up with something fun as they did before.
"Of course, they're going to come up with something really fun."
Apart from Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth is returning as Thor, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki from the earlier projects. They will be joined by the stars from Thunderbolts* and Fantastic Four: The First Steps, introduced in the recent Marvel tentpoles. X-Men will also be a part of this massive cast.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026.
