Julia Roberts has confirmed that the sequel of the 90s classic film, My Best Friend's Wedding, is actually in progress. In fact, there is a huge possibility that she might even star in the film as well.
In a cover story on Variety, the veteran actor was interviewed along with the director Luca Guadagnino and her co-stars of her latest film, After the Hunt. The actors joining her in the interview included Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield and Chloë Sevigny.

While speaking to Variety, when Julia Roberts was asked if she had been cast in the much-talked about sequel of one of her iconic films, My Best Friend's Wedding, the actor replied by stating:
No, they’re talking to me.
Going by what Roberts said, it definitely confirms that there is in fact a sequel that is in the making. Also, the Pretty Woman star is being considered to be cast in it and hence, the makers and the actor are currently negotiating about it.
Just when Julia Roberts finished her statement, Luca Guadagnino uttered:
"Can I …"
To which, Chloë Sevigny said:
He wants to direct it.
And then Luca Guadagnino expressed a desire to direct the sequel to My Best Friend's Wedding, which he revealed he would do "In a second." Hearing this, Andrew Garfield added by expressing his excitement, as he said:
"Oh my God, that’s fantastic."
Back in July this year, the sequel to My Best Friend's Wedding was declared to be at its very initial stage of existence. As reported by Collider, filmmaker Celine Song has been brought on board to pen the script of the film by Sony Pictures.
Back then, while speaking to the New York Post, Dermot Mulroney, who had starred along with Roberts in the original film, mentioned the sequel by stating:
“I know nothing about it. Last I heard, quote, lawyers were talking, unquote,”
So, details about the sequel to My Best Friend's Wedding have been quite hush-hush and unconfirmed yet. Except for Song's association with the film as the writer, no details about its helmer or its cast had been revealed.
After Julia Roberts' recent statement, we are now a step ahead in knowing about its current developments. And what's even better is that there could be a chance of the OG actor being cast in the sequel as well.
Released in 1997, My Best Friend's Wedding follows the plot of a best friend duo, Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) and Michael O'Neal (Dermot Mulroney). When Michael delivers the news to Julianne about his decision to marry Kimberly (played by Cameron Diaz), Julianne is hit with the realization of her true feelings towards Michael.
However, the wedding date is knocking at the door, so Julianne strives to find a way not to let Michael marry Kimberly.
Directed by P.J. Hogan, this classic rom-com has a decent rating of 74% on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 6.4/10 on IMDb.
