Scarlett Johansson's first Jurassic Park film is off to a great start as Jurassic World Rebirth crosses past the $100 million mark globally within two days of its theatrical release, per Deadline.
Directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, the film marks the return of the franchise that began with Steven Spielberg's blockbuster hit. Since then, the follow-up projects have tried to reach the same heights. Jurassic World Rebirth has fallen behind them in terms of its critical reception.
Despite such issues, the film has seemingly brought back the franchise fans. Their love and appreciation are helping it be a major box-office success. Released on July 2 in the USA, Jurassic World Rebirth has reportedly earned $55.8 million domestically and $48.8 million internationally, taking its cumulative global total to a whopping $104.6 million (per Deadline). That's not it.
According to early box-office projections, it is supposed to earn over $137 million during its five-day run at the domestic box office. So, in the coming days, the film might cross another box office milestone.
How does Jurassic World Rebirth stand in comparison to other Jurassic World films?

Gareth Edwards' Jurassic World Rebirth is performing well at the theaters and is expected to draw a larger crowd in the coming days. Still, per a report from Variety, this nostalgic ride into the world of dinosaurs isn't performing as well as the recent Jurassic World entries, backed by Colin Trevorrow, either as a writer or a director.
However, it is also true that Tevorrow's films didn't receive an overwhelmingly positive critical reception either. The 2015 flick received a 72% Rotten Tomatoes score, but the latter two received less-than-favorable reviews.
Even then, Rebirth had a bigger opening weekend collection than the expected weekend gross. Per Variety, the 2015 Jurassic World film earned about $208 million, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) earned $148 million, and Jurassic World Dominion (2022) earned $145 million. Unlike Rebirth, they achieved this success within three days of their respective theatrical releases.
Last week, F1: Movie and M3GAN 2.0 were released on the same day. The Brad Pitt film took the throne while the Blumhouse horror production stalled behind the expectations set by the viral breakout success of its original film. Unlike them, Jurassic World Rebirth does not have any strong competition in theaters upon its release, which may have factored into its overall success, leading it to become one of the major hits this summer.
David Koepp talks about Steven Spielberg's contribution to the project.

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, David Koepp spoke about what Steven Spielberg wanted this film to be like.
"That it should be scary. We should see some things that we’ve never seen before. Let’s make the science as close to realas we can. And something that is important to him with everything — but in this movie in particular — he really wanted to avoid anything that was a self-reference. He does not like to quote himself. He’s allergic to it. If you put something in that rings too familiar, he’ll say, “Didn’t I already do that? Don’t do that,” Koepp said.
Jurassic World Rebirth is out in theaters now.
