One of the biggest questions unanswered in K-Pop Demon Hunters is "Who is Rumi's father?" While we know her dad was a demon, the animated film didn't reveal his identity or how he met Rumi's mother.

Fans on social media platforms and Reddit are discussing theories about who might be her dad, and many believe it's none other than Gwi-ma. As seen in the film, Rumi's mother, Hina, was also a demon hunter and part of the Sunlight Sisters K-Pop girl group.

These chosen women are tasked with saving the world from the demons, and Rumi's mother did the same. However, according to one theory, it could be possible that Rumi’s mother disappeared after a brutal fight and was dragged into the demon realm, where she was either captured or forced to survive in hiding.

Here’s where the K-Pop Demon Hunters theory turns: during her time in the demon world, Rumi’s mother may have crossed paths with Gwi-Ma and formed a complex relationship. Rather than being a story of victimhood alone, the theory imagines a dark romance.

They struck a deal: she could leave the demon realm to give birth to her child in the human world, but once the baby was born, her soul would belong to Gwi-Ma. This could explain her death and why Celine raised Rumi and promised Hina to forever protect her.

Not to forget that Gwi-ma mentioned that there's one demon in the mortal world whom he can't control. At that point, Jinu also didn't know who Gwi-ma was referring to. But after he spotted the marks, it was confirmed that the demon Gwi-ma cannot manipulate is none other than Rumi (because she's half human).

One major clue that suggests Rumi might be Gwi-ma's daughter in K-Pop Demon Hunters is the lyrics of the song, Golden. It's Rumi who does a solo when lyrics about being alone and having the throne come up.

She sings, "I lived two lives, tried to play both sides. But I couldn't find my own place. Called a problem child 'cause I got too wild", and also mentions feeling unworthy of the throne she was given.

If the throne is a metaphor for her demon bloodline, possibly a birthright from Gwi-Ma, then the lyrics could reveal her inner struggle. It would mean her biggest battle isn’t just against demons but with her own identity.

The directors of K-Pop Demon Hunters, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, revealed that some parts of the story, like Rumi’s past, had to be cut to keep the film at 85 minutes. But they’ve hinted that future chapters might dive deeper into the girls’ histories, including the truth about the Honmoon barrier and Rumi’s parents.

If fan theories are right, Rumi isn’t just a demon hunter. She might actually be the daughter of the enemy. That twist would give a potential sequel a deeper edge, shifting the fight from just battling demons to Rumi fighting with the monster inside her.
