Kelly Clarkson kept Brandon Blackstock's cancer battle private, "only a few people" knew

The news of Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock’s death has come as a shock to her fans. Brandon died on August 7 at the age of 48 after fighting a battle with cancer. This news came shortly after Kelly postponed her August studio session dates in Las Vegas.

In the post, she wrote:

"Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them."

Kelly Clarkson has largely kept her personal life private and has not disclosed the exact nature of Brandon’s illness. Following the announcement, a source, speaking about who was aware of the situation, told Us Weekly that:

"only a few people in Kelly’s circle."

The source also revealed that a few members of her show also knew about Brandon Blackstock's cancer. Talking about her life and kids, the insider told Us Weekly:

"Kelly’s work schedule has been difficult over the last few months as she needed to take care of her kids. She needed the time off as her kids come first. It’s terrible and sad."

The couple married in 2013 and divorced in 2022. Clarkson shared two children with Blackstock, River Rose and Remington Alexander.

Brandon Blackstock fought with cancer, reportedly for over three years

The statement issued by the family representative after his death read:

"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.”

It continued:

"We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time."

The statement revealed that Brandon had been fighting cancer for over three years, though the family has chosen to keep the specific details about his illness private.

Before Kelly Clarkson, Brandon was married to Melissa Ashworth, with whom he shared two children, Savannah and Seth. Melissa and Clarkson were reportedly on good terms, with Melissa telling RadarOnline after their divorce:

"We have a wonderful relationship. I love Kelly and we get along great, and my husband and I hang out with them all the time."

While Kelly Clarkson has kept her Instagram following list very short, with only 36 people, the list includes Brandon Blackstock's daughter, Savannah, reflecting the positive relationship between the two.

As of now, Kelly Clarkson has not made a public statement regarding her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock's passing.
