Kenneth Branagh is officially joining the cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2, which shows the four cast members of the 2006 comedy-drama film The Devil Wears Prada returning to the screen. Meryl Streep will reprise her role as Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of New York's Runway magazine. Branagh will play Miranda's husband.
Apart from Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt will also return to the cast as Miranda's two assistants, Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton, respectively. This time, they won't be working for Miranda but competing against her — at least one of them is. Apart from them, Stanley Tucci will also reprise his role as Nigel, who previously worked as Runaway's art director. The sequel's official plot synopsis, per IMDb, reads:
"Follows Miranda Priestly's struggle against Emily Charlton, her former assistant turned rival executive, as they compete for advertising revenue amidst declining print media while Miranda nears retirement."
Per reports, The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be set in a world where print media has been in a steady decline. That likely puts Miranda and her revered fashion magazine in a tough spot.
It might lead her to begrudgingly cross paths with Emily, who is now her competitor — and not the assistant who kept working for her even after Andy parted ways from the magazine, seemingly for good. We're yet to receive specific details about Hathaway's character, but if we're to go by the plot of Lauren Weisberger's follow-up novel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, Andy might be working closely with Emily.
