Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, have taken legal action against Ray J, filing a defamation suit over his repeated claims that they’re under a federal racketeering investigation. The lawsuit accuses him of spreading “blatantly false” statements that have slandered their reputation and leveraged their fame.

For decades, Ray J has been tangentially linked to the Kardashian-Jenner narrative not least because of his past relationship with Kim but this suit marks a sharp escalation. It’s their first defamation case, and it underscores how seriously they view the allegations he’s made.

Ray J’s explosive claims and how they went viral

The current lawsuit centers on two major moments. First, Ray J made remarks in the documentary United States vs. Sean Combs suggesting that racketeering charges against the Kardashians would be fitting implying that a federal RICO investigation could be in the works.

Those comments gained new life when, on a livestream September 24 with Chrisean Rock, Ray J reiterated the accusations. He claimed,

“The feds is coming … It’s worse than Diddy,”

and said a RICO case against Kim and Kris was imminent.

The livestream sparked a massive wave of sharing and speculation. Clips circulated rapidly on social media, with many questioning the validity of his statements and others wondering whether any government action might really be underway. Because of that visibility, Kim and Kris say the damage was swift and wide.

In their complaint, they assert that no law enforcement agency has ever initiated a racketeering probe against them, and that Ray J presented no credible evidence to back up his claims. They argue his statements are part of a pattern: an attempt to cling to their fame and stay relevant by stirring controversy.

The lawsuit demands both compensatory and punitive damages, though it does not specify amounts. Their attorney, Alex Spiro, emphasized that this is the first time Kim and Kris have pursued defamation a choice made only after Ray’s remarks became too serious to ignore.

Throughout the years, Ray and the Kardashians have clashed publicly often over how the 2003-2007 sex tape was handled and who benefited from its release. Those tensions add emotional weight to this legal move.

In filing this lawsuit, Kim and Kris aim to silence what they call a harmful campaign of rumors. Whether the court will side with them remains to be seen but what’s certain is that this latest legal standoff shines a harsh light on how celebrity, accusation, and reputation intersect in today’s era of viral media.
