Is there a release date for Lee Min-ho's fantasy movie Omniscient Reader: The Prophet?
While there's no official release date, Lotte Entertainment has revealed that Omniscient Reader: The Prophet will arrive in July 2025. The filming for this giant project kicked off in December 2023 and was wrapped up last year.
This means that the movie is all set to hit the screens and fans can expect an official release date announcement soon. The movie is directed by Kim Byung-woo with Won Dong-yun as the producer.
Since there has been a controversy that the film does not completely follow the novel, as the characters were seen with guns, not swords, the producer explained:
"Before making the movie, we showed the entire script to the original author in advance and explained all the adaptations. The author fully understood and accepted them."
The makers have made it clear that any changes in the film, including the action scenes and weapon choices, were discussed and approved by the original author, ensuring that the story stays loyal to its core themes and tone.

Exploring the plot details of Omniscient Reader: The Prophet

Omniscient Reader: The Prophet follows Kim Dok-ja, who realizes that the events from his favorite apocalyptic web novel are happening in the real world. What sets him apart is that he’s the only one who’s actually read the novel to the end.
This gives him an advantage —Kim Dok-ja knows what’s coming and tries to use that information to change how things turn out. As the world begins to collapse, strange and deadly "scenarios" appear.
These are life-threatening events created by mysterious beings called dokkaebi (a kind of supernatural creature in Korean folklore). Kim Dok-ja joins forces with Yoo Jung-hyuk and others to face these deadly challenges.
The story touches on how people try to survive when the world falls apart, how they build trust (or betray each other), and how the characters grow under extreme pressure.

The cast and characters in Omniscient Reader: The Prophet explored

As previously explained, Omniscient Reader: The Prophet is a highly anticipated film, not just because of the popular novel it follows, but also due to the star-studded cast. The excitement among fans has intensified after watching the trailer, as they can't wait to see their favorite stars sharing the screen.
Here are the confirmed cast and characters in Omniscient Reader: The Prophet:
Lee Min-ho plays Yoo Jung-hyuk: South Korea's A-lister Lee Min-ho will be seen playing one of the most powerful characters in this epic. As seen in the trailer, he's fearless and incredibly skilled at eliminating deadly threats.
Ahn Hyo-seop plays Kim Dok-ja: Business Proposal lead actor Ahn Hyo-seop is the central figure of the web novel and the film. He's just an ordinary man whose life takes an unexpected turn when events from a novel he read start happening in real life.
Jisoo from BLACKPINK plays Lee Ji-hye: Now comes the character BLINKS are eagerly waiting to see. Jisoo is seen holding a gun in the poster, which means she will also take part in the deadly challenges.
However, Ji-hye uses a sword in the novel, and this change in the film seemed to have upset many fans. But since Jisoo's role has also been expanded, it might allow her to appear more on the screen.
Chae Soo-bin as Yoo Sang-ah: Actress Chae Soo-bin recently appeared in hit K-drama When the Phone Rings, and now she has been paired with Hyo-seop's Dok-ja in Omniscient Reader: The Prophet.
Sang-ah also appears in the trailer, where she can be seen sitting next to Kim Dok-ja. This duo is another reason why fans are excited, as Sang-ah is the woman who has worked with the main character.
Other supporting cast members include Nana aka Im Jin-ah will appear as Jung Hee-won, Shin Seung-ho is cast as Lee Hyun-sung, along with other actors like Park Ho-san and Choi Young-joon.
Background and the original story in the web novel

The movie is based on a well-known Korean web novel titled Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, written by Sing Shong. It first came out in 2018 and wrapped up in 2020.
Even after the main story ended, side stories continued to be published. A webtoon (digital comic) adaptation was also launched, further expanding the story’s reach.
The web novel gained a huge international fanbase because of its unusual plot and layered characters. An anime adaptation has also been announced, showing just how popular this story has become.
