Legends to reunite as John Woo and Nicolas Cage to team up for a Gambino biopic

Prominent filmmaker John Woo and actor Nicolas Cage are reuniting again for the upcoming biopic Gambino, as reported by Deadline.

After their iconic collaboration in the 1997 cult film Face/Off, Cage and Woo are joining hands once again to collaborate once again. The film is set in the aftermath of the infamous crime lord Carlo Gambino's demise. That is when a renowned journalist, Jimmy Breslin, sets out on a journey to inquire deeply about the man through real-life accounts of people who have known the mafia boss.

The movie will follow Oscar winner Cage’s Carlo Gambino, a butcher’s son from Sicily, who rules New York’s underworld with quiet authority. But when his death sends shockwaves through the city, Pulitzer-winning journalist Jimmy Breslin follows the trail he left behind to uncover the man beneath the legend. Through the voices of those who loved him and those who feared him, Breslin peels back the composure that masked Gambino’s ruthlessness, revealing how this outsider rose to redefine power, loyalty and the American dream.

Here's everything we know about John Woo's Gambino, starring Nicolas Cage

As reported by the outlet, John Woo is set to direct the upcoming project Gambino, with Nicolas Cage starring in it. The script of the film is penned by Nick Vallelonga and George Gallo.

The film explores the life of Carlo Gambino and his journey to attain power in the crime world. His family, known as the Gambino crime family, was involved in the mafia world of Sicily, where Carlo was also born in 1902. Eventually, the family set off their reign in New York. Carlo became an important figure in leading a crime syndicate in the American Mafia. He breathed his last in the year 1976, at the age of 74.

Prior to this biopic, the mob boss had been portrayed in several films and TV series, including Gotti, Godfather of Harlem, and The Alto Knights, to name a few.

WME Independent has posted the film for purchase at the American Film Market. Production companies including NextG Films and Latigo Films are supporting the project. From NextG Films, we have Cassian Elwes and Edward Zeng as producers, and from Latigo Films, we have David Lipper and Robert Daly Jr.

Along with acting, Nicolas Cage will also be producing the film. He is joined by the scriptwriters Vallelonga and Gallo.
