Nicolas Cage's upcoming biographical sports movie Madden looks into the life of the legendary football figure, John Madden. Cage plays the role of the iconic coach and the commentator.

The film is helmed by David O. Russell. The Academy-nominated director has previously made Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees, The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook, Amsterdam and many more.

The film follows the life of the NFL icon, from his beginnings as a football player to becoming a revered coach. It traces how he went on to be such an influential figure in the world of sports, as he led to the making of Madden NFL, the widely famous video-game franchise.

Madden: Here's everything about the Nicolas Cage-starrer sports biopic

The upcoming sports drama is expected to provide a detailed insight into the life of the coach and his gallant journey of creating history in the world of football. Born in 1936, he began his career as a player. But he met with an injury, which led him to focus on coaching.

He was immensely successful as a head coach. Due to his work with the Oakland Raiders, the team tasted immense success in 1977, as they won Super Bowl XI. His career soared even higher as he left coaching and embarked on a path to becoming a celebrated football commentator. Eventually, the man led to the creation of the world's most famous sports video-game franchise — Madden NFL.

The sports legend died in 2021, at the age of 85.

We shall relive his memory and life through Nicolas Cage's portrayal of the football icon. Along with him, Christian Bale will portray the role of the Raiders' Al Davis, who had joined him in his successive journey.

This sports biopic will be released by Amazon MGM Studios. Back in May, the first look at the film was released. It featured a sneak peek into its world, featuring Cage and Bale. The picture is bound to take us back to the 1970s, with the actors' looks accurately portraying the real-life people and the era.

The release date has not been declared yet. No official trailer of the film has been released.

The project began its shooting in Atlanta in April 2025. As per the May report of The Atlanta Journal Constitution, the filming was slated to continue till July.

As per People Magazine, apart from Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale, the film also stars Kathryn Hahn, Sienna Miller and John Mulaney. Hahn shall be playing the role of his wife, with Mulaney portraying Trip Hawkins, and Miller shall portray Al Davis's wife.
