The film has received an impressive score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible film series, with the previous film, Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part One, released in 2023. This upcoming film continues the story from the 2023 movie.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has landed with an incredible score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it isn't the best score in the franchise.
The previous films have set the benchmark quite high, as the scores of the last four films in the series have not dipped below 90%. The previous installment, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, garnered a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes. So, in this upcoming film, there is a significant drop of 9% in its score compared to its predecessor.
The highest score that the franchise has received is with its 2018 film Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which scored a whopping 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Its lowest score has been for the 2000 film Mission: Impossible II, which has an aggregate score of 57%.
Since then, scores have significantly improved, starting with the 2006 film Mission: Impossible III, which scored 71%. The films released after this have all entered the 90% club, consistently scoring above that mark. This trend began with the 2011 film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which landed a score of 93%.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning made its global debut on 5 May 2025 in Tokyo. After showcasing on 14 May at the Cannes Film Festival, the film will hit the screens on 23 May 2025.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the film takes place in the aftermath of the 2023 film and explores Ethan Hunt's journey in his quest to find the key to the Entity. Tom Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt. Joining Cruise are Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, and many others.
