The Mortal Kombat 2 star Martyn Ford reveals that the new movie will be more exciting than what the trailer might have led you to believe.

The upcoming martial arts thriller will bring back director Simon McQuoid to helm yet another exciting adaptation of Ed Boon and John Tobias's combat video game. Warner Bros. Pictures, which holds the film's distribution rights, recently revealed a two-and-a-half-minute trailer, offering a glimpse into the sequel's stunt design and overall aesthetic.

It shows plenty of action set pieces to build hype for this October release. However, Martyn Ford believes that the trailer may have left "the best bits" out and amps the hype even further. In the new film, Ford joins the cast as Shao Kahn, an emperor from the Outworld, whom the Earthrealm would face in the new battle.

Here's what Ford had to say about it all in his interview with ScreenRant:

"We had the announcement that Mortal Kombat II was the largest-ever-viewed trailer, with 126 million views in 24 hours. It's crazy, it's not bad. And the film's incredible, in all honesty. I watched the trailer — and this sounds really bad, so I hope no one's listening to this — and I was like, "They haven't put, in my opinion, the best bits in it." And that trailer did so well. So, when people see the actual film, I think they'll be shocked. The film carries so much depth, from the story to the humor, to the action, the film's phenomenal. Absolutely incredible, and to be a small part in that cog is awesome."

Martyn Ford, the 6'8" bodybuilder, has been gradually building an amazing filmography as an actor in recent years. He most recently appeared as Goliath in Prime's House of David, apart from Peacock's Those About to Die as Flamma. It leads him to be a part of this blockbuster franchise that will soon release its second installment, backed by Jeremy Slater's script.

While speaking about being a part of Mortal Kombat 2, Ford told ScreenRant,

"It's incredible, to be honest. I feel, because I've been so busy for the last couple of years, going from project to project, this has been the first time I can sit back and sort of let it all sink in of what's happened and where it's at."

In the latest movie, the fighters of the Earthrealm will have one final chance to win their battle against the Outworld. Ford's character, Shao Kahn, will be a force to reckon with. The early promotional teasers and the new trailer hint at that. Apart from him, The Boys star Karl Urban joins the film series as scene-stealing Johnny Cage.

Ford considers the casting in Mortal Kombat 2 as an honor. That's why, in a conversation with Collider, he said,

"It's incredible to be part of that franchise. It's incredible to be here today. I feel that every role that I've done has kind ofled to that. It was a phenomenal opportunity and an absolute honor and privilege to play Shao Kahn."

Mortal Kombat 2 is slated to be released on October 24, 2025.
