Mortal Kombat 2 is an upcoming martial arts fantasy film set to hit the theaters soon. It serves as a direct sequel to the 2021 film, Mortal Kombat, which was adapted from the much-loved video game by the same name. The sequel is bringing Simon McQuoid into the director's chair after helming the previous project, which was a box office success.
The Moon Knight creator, Jeremy Slater, has penned the script for Mortal Kombat 2, which brings The Boys actor, Karl Urban, as the arrogant and heroic warrior, Johnny Cage. Until now, we have only seen the first look stills of Johnny, Kitana, and Shao Kahn. So, fans must be excited for the trailer to catch a glimpse of the new movie. It looks like they won't have to wait much longer.
In a recent X (formerly Twitter) post, producer Todd Garner shared a positive update about the trailer release. Here's what he said on July 13:
"Hey! Good news! Within 2 weeks, the trailer will drop!"
Based on Todd Garner's post, the Mortal Kombat 2 trailer will likely be released in the last week of July. It will finally let fans see more from the world director Simon McQuoid has designed for the sequel.
Mortal Kombat 2 writer spoke about what the fans can expect from his new movie
Jeremy Slater is taking over the writing duties for the sequel that will follow its fierce fighters on a journey after what happened to them in the previous chapter. He was well aware that the first movie hinted at a tournament coming up in their lives. That's why he wanted to bring it to life with his script.
During a conversation with ComicBook on June 8, Slater revealed what the fans can expect from the new movie:
“I was adamant that we had to have this tournament in the movie. We can’t make people wait another movie and then be like, ‘Come back for the finale,’” he said.
He further added:
“It was finding a structure to make the tournament as satisfying as you want it to be, because this had years of build-up. It’s figuring out who the individual matches are going to be, which characters do you pair off for maximum emotional impact, but also for the most dynamic fights. Then, also, what is the larger story you are telling between the tournaments?”
His action-packed sequel will bring back some older characters along with some new faces.
