Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still a year away from a theatrical release, but fans have already gotten excited about the project.

It doesn't come as a surprise since this is probably the first time they will see Tom Holland's wall-crawler fighting the crimes in his town instead of the multiverse-level complications. As if that's not enough, Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner and Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle are expected to join the 29-year-old actor on this adventure.

There's still no confirmation on who spidey will be up against in the new film. Until now, the only confirmed antagonist is Mac Gargan / Scorpion (Michael Mando), who briefly appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Otherwise, some rumors suggest that a bigger threat is looming over Peter Parker's life in the form of Mister Negative, AKA Martin Li.

Neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures has confirmed this character's appearance or any casting. Still, fans have been theorizing about who should play this iconic supervillain. Among a few names floating around, Daniel Dae Kim's might have caught the most attention. He recently starred in Netflix’s live-action series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. So, in a recent conversation with ScreenRant, he was asked about the fan casting. Kim said,

"I heard something about that over the past six or seven months, and I saw that. I've seen that people want other Asian actors to play him as well, so I'm happy to be included in that conversation, but I haven't heard anything."

As mentioned earlier, the studio hasn't yet confirmed whether Mister Negative will be a part of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The principal photography has reportedly begun in Scotland, where fans spotted Tom Holland in his Spider-Man suit. So, it's too early to tell who will be cast as enigmatic Martin Li in case he happens to be in the movie.

Daniel Dae Kim is one of the names being considered by fans for this role. Many of them believe he will do justice to the character's mysterious persona, which can look great on the big screen. During the ScreenRant interview, Kim addressed the fan art being circulated on the internet by people who think he fits the part. To that, Kim said,

"It's interesting. I'm always up for an interesting role and an interesting project."

Apart from him, another name being thrown in the ballot is Steven Yeun. The Walking Dead star has built an impressive body of work since his shocking death on the zombie horror show, including an Oscar-nominated turn in Minari (2020) and an Emmy-winning performance in the Netflix series, Beef.

Yeun was reportedly cast as Sentry in Thunderbolts*, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, leading to Lewis Pullman's casting. So, Mister Negative can be another chance for Yeun to be a part of the MCU.

Some fans believe Stephen Oyoung, who voiced Mister Negative in a video game, should reprise the role, while others are casting John Wick 4 star Donnie Yen in the role.

It remains to be seen whether the villain will be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, let alone who gets cast to play the part. Hopefully, the fans will receive an update soon.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be out in theaters on July 31, 2026.
