Academy Award-winning actor Kate Winslet will soon come up with her directorial debut, Goodbye June, a British drama film featuring Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, and more. There's no trailer for the movie yet, but Netflix just dropped some images, which appear to be a mix of behind-the-scenes pictures and stills from the movie.
Kate Winslet herself is acting in the movie, which, according to its synopsis,
"Takes place just before Christmas, when an unexpected turn in their mother’s health thrusts four adult siblings and their exasperating father into chaos as they navigate messy family dynamics in the face of potential loss. But their quick-witted mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms — with biting humor, blunt honesty, and a lot of love."
She isn't the only actor making her directorial debut. Babygirl's Harris Dickinson has directed a movie called Urchin, too, which premiered at the 78th annual Cannes Film Festival.
Just recently, it got a release date, and the movie will make its theatrical debut in October.
While Kate Winslet is directing and acting in Goodbye June, she is also attached as a co-producer alongside Kate Solomon. The film's screenplay is written by Winslet's son, Joe Anders, who has appeared in films including Lee (2023), a movie inspired by a real-life person, where his mother was in the lead, 1917 (2019), and Bonus Track (2023). Interestingly, she, Winslet, was a co-producer with Solomon on Lee, too.
Kate Winslet feels great about Goodbye June

In her recent interview about the movie, she tells Deadline's Baz Bamigboye that she feels great about her directorial debut at the age of 50. She said,
"Yeah, I have had some really great experiences. And I think of wonderful people like Francis Lee, who I learned so much from, and Todd Haynes, who I learned so much from. It’s just a big, vast community of creatives who all chat and share things. And I’ve been part of that community for a very, very long time. And I think it just feels great to have directed my first film in the 50th year of my life as a woman. It feels good, it feels good."
Her son started writing Goodbye June when he was 19 years old and working on a screenwriting course.
Winslet also revealed in the interview that she was in a discussion with Anders about direction. At first, they were thinking of hiring someone. However, it felt to her like a stab "in the gut."
She then told him that if they gave the project to another director, then it wouldn't exactly be theirs. But then she wanted to feel like it was their own project, and hence the decision for her to be the director was made.
Goodbye June is a Netflix film, but it will be released in limited theaters in the United Kingdom and the United States on December 12, 2025. It will arrive on the streaming platform on December 24, 2025.
