3 times Dakota Johnson suffered wardrobe malfunction on live TV as wrong outfit derails Jimmy Fallon interview

Dakota Johnson recently suffered a wardrobe malfunction while appearing on a talk show on June 2. During her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Materialists actress wore an elegant black dress with a deep neckline.

However, the outfit was not perfectly fitted, as a result of which the actress’ outfit revealed more than was intended.

Johnson realized the problem very early on in the interview, notably as soon as she sat on the couch opposite Jimmy Fallon. Even though she seemed a little uncomfortable with her outfit, she managed the awkward moment smoothly, acknowledging the poor fit of her dress with jokes. Johnson’s handling of the potentially awkward situation showed that she is an adept and experienced media personality.

Although jokes about Johnson’s outfit recurred during the conversation, the actress was able to carve out ample time to speak about her new film, Materialists. Johnson’s appearance on the talk show was part of the media tour for the film, as per Entertainment Now.

Dakota Johnson’s wardrobe malfunctions on live TV

Dakota Johnson’s recent wardrobe malfunction was not the first time she experienced an awkward moment in front of the camera. In the past, Johnson has had to deal with similar awkward moments in relation to her wardrobe when, on multiple instances, her outfit didn’t fit her perfectly during her appearances on live television.

Previously, Johnson suffered a wardrobe malfunction in 2024, when she made an appearance during the talk-show, Jimmy Kimmel Live. At the time, she was promoting her film Daddio in which she starred alongside Sean Penn.

During the talk-show, while Johnson spoke about her film with Jimmy Kimmel, the left strap of her dress suddenly broke. Johnson was able to avert the consequences of the wardrobe malfunction gracefully as she instinctively held onto the moment it broke. Johnson spent the rest of her appearance on the talk-show conversing about her film while holding onto the strap of her dress with her hand.

One year before suffering a wardrobe malfunction during the Jimmy Kimmel interview, Johnson was in the midst of a similar awkward experience when she appeared on the Late Late Show in 2023. Unlike her recent wardrobe malfunctions during talk-shows, Johnson’s experience during the Late Late Show, did not involve any faulty fitting or even a mishap with her outfit.

Rather, the issue during the Late Late Show seemed to be that of her choice of dress. While Johnson looked stunning in her outfit for the show, the dress did not allow Johnson to sit comfortably on the couch in front of the camera, as per Page Six. The media outlet reported that Johnson’s outfit during her appearance on the Late Late Show was a bit more revealing than she was comfortable with, as result of which there were moments throughout the show when the actress would cover her thighs with her hands.

Early on in Dakota Johnson’s career, the actress experienced an awkward moment with her dress while she was on stage to collect her trophy during the People’s Choice Award ceremony in 2016. Johnson had won the award for Favourite Dramatic Movie Actress, and when she went to collect the trophy from Leslie Mann and hugged her, Johnson’s top came undone. Johnson managed the incident with composure, cracking a joke when she got to the mic.
