"All this for an album push?": Fans react as Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announce engagement

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have officially taken the next step in their relationship.

On Tuesday, August 26, the global pop star and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end revealed they are engaged. The announcement came via a joint Instagram post. It featured a series of photos. Kelce was on one knee in a garden. Taylor Swift was smiling and holding his face. Notably, there was a close-up of their engagement ring.

The caption read,

"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."

This caption is seemingly a nod to their different professions. The post was accompanied by Taylor Swift's song So High School from her album, The Tortured Poets Department. Notably, many believe this track is inspired by her romance with Kelce. Social media was lit with celebratory comments. However, one fan questioned the engagement timing and asked,

"hmm, all this for an album push?"

Swift and Kelce’s story began in July 2023. On his New Heights podcast, the NFL star revealed he had tried and failed to meet Swift during her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City. He admitted to making a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, which he intended to give to her. Taylor Swift later recalled the gesture as something "straight out of a John Hughes movie."

By September 2023, Swift went public by attending her first Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium.
