According to the latest reports, Apple Studios has greenlit an untitled project starring Vera Farmiga alongside filmmaker Stephen Chbosky, which will be an adaptation of the 2023 film Weekend Rebels. Per Deadline, The Conjuring actress will lead the cast of the upcoming movie with Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg.
As already confirmed, The SpringHill Company is at the helm of the German sports drama's reimagination in association with Plan B Entertainment. No other cast members have been confirmed so far, but credible sources say that the movie will revolve around the true incident of a father-son duo's heartwarming journey to decide on a favorite club in the soccer world.
Vera Farmiga to star alongside Mark Wahlberg for upcoming drama adaptation of Weekend Rebels
According to Deadline, the upcoming Weekend Rebels adaptation starring Vera Farmiga will be executive-produced under the banner of Wiedemann & Berg by Max Wiedemann alongside Quirin Berg. However, there are rumors that the new story can shift towards the NBA owing to LeBron James' intervention on behalf of The SpringHill Company.
Mirco and Jason von Juterzcenka's autobiography Wir Wochenendrebellen was the main theme of the 2023 German adaptation, and with a star-studded cast already lining up for the new announcement, the Apple Studios project looks promising. Per Deadline, Maverick Carter from SpringHill will also be joining the team as executive producer, Wiedemann & Berg
The plot of the upcoming Vera Farmiga movie will center on a father-son duo where the latter suffers from autism and faces new challenges every day as a special kid. While the mother deals with the needs of the family, the father is mostly focused on his kids' upbringing.
He also has the responsibility of fulfilling his son's wish of witnessing every club from every division player soccer live so that he can decide upon a favorite. With back-to-back hits from Apple Studios (especially after F1's recent success in the box office), the upcoming Vera Farmiga starrer has some big shoes to fill.
Vera Farmiga will supposedly play one of the lead roles, while Mark Wahlberg might take up the part of the father. However, all of it is still being speculated, and any further details about the plot are still being kept under wraps.
