The internet is seeing a resurgence of former influencer and social media personality Belle Delphine after actress Sydney Sweeney launched her limited-edition soap with drops of her bath water in it.
Back in 2019, Delphine sold her own bath water on social media.
Netizens have flooded social media with comparisons between the former influencer and Sweeney after the Anyone But You actress announced her bath water soap. Fan reactions to the news range from emphasizing Delphine's role in inspiring Sweeney’s actions to criticizing both Sweeney and Delphine’s antics.
A fan emphasized the debt Sweeney owes to Delphine:
“Belle Delphine walked so Sydney Sweeney could run”
Another netizen pointed out that this is not the first time that Sweeney’s actions have borne a resemblance to Delphine’s stunts, writing:
“Sydney Sweeney’s Belle Delphine arc needs to be studied”
For one fan, Sweeney had completed her transformation into the former social media phenomenon Delphine:
“Sydney Sweeney is basically just the new Belle Delphine now”
A fan referenced authors John Trent and John Dishwasher, and while emphasizing Sweeney’s turn as Delphine:
“John Trent writes the best headlines. Sydney Sweeney went full Belle Delphine. Will Vito vape this, though?”
Despite the fact that fans were largely invigorated by the reemergence of Delphine’s name on social media, both the former influencer and Sweeney faced some criticism. An X user wrote:
“It wasn’t cool when Belle Delphine did it and it’s not cool when Sydney Sweeney does it.”
Some criticism was reserved solely for Sweeney, who was urged by fans of Delphine to not appropriate the influencer’s signature stunts. A fan took to X to write:
“sydney sweeney think she bele delphine don’t evr disrespect egirl culture like that again u white demon”

Comparison with Delphine's 2019 stunt
Sydney Sweeney’s newest product partnership has ruffled plenty of feathers. Perth Now noted that although the partnership is an unusual one, Sweeney’s yet-to-be-released bath water soap has already found plenty of fans on social media.
When former internet phenomenon Delphine sold her bath water in 2019, she did not package it in a product. The social media celebrity, inspired by jokes made by fans in the comments that they could ‘drink her bath water,’ began selling bottles of her bath water priced at $30.
According to The Guardian, when Delphine debuted the idea, it found numerous fans. Her Instagram post garnered 500,000 likes, and the bottles sold out.
Delphine’s stunt, however, might have led to the removal of her Instagram account, as the social media platform removed her page the same month.
