According to E News, on May 12, Bindi Irwin shared why she missed the Gala honoring her father, via Instagram, that she had to undergo surgery to remove her appendix and 14 endometriosis lesions. Irwin wrote on Instagram that,

“After many months of a grumbly appendix, I finally had to seek help the day of our Steve Irwin Gala... My appendix was removed, along with another 14 lesions (after having 37 endometriosis lesions and a cyst removed two years ago). I also had a repair to a large hernia I acquired through childbirth four years ago. Thankfully, I am on the road to recovery.”

Her brother, Robert Irwin, also shared with People Magazine that she had to undergo immediate surgery after her appendix ruptured. Terri Irwin did not attend the Gala to be with her daughter. According to Robert, Bindi is devastated about missing the Gala.

Bindi Irwin shared with Today, regarding her diagnosis, that she suffered from symptoms like severe stabbing pain, IBS, nausea, etc, which got worse during her periods. Though she got tests done, everything came out normal, and her symptoms were brushed off as a result of stress or hormones.

According to Bindi, not knowing the cause of her pain was disheartening and made her anxious. She further stated that,

"It was very easy to believe doctors, and I actually gave up searching for answers."

According to Today, the symptoms only worsened with age and affected her normal life; she had to give up on her hobbies and even hugs due to pain. After she gave birth to her daughter, the symptoms worsened, and she began to look for answers again, leading her to a post on endometriosis by a friend, through whom she connected with a doctor and was finally diagnosed with endometriosis.

In March 2023, Bindi underwent surgery to remove about 34 endometrial lesions as well as a cyst filled with menstrual blood, which made her feel a lot better and allowed her to resume regular activities.
