Blake Lively reportedly made her first public appearance following the dismissal of Justin Baldoni’s lawsuit against her and Ryan Reynolds. According to Us Weekly, the Gossip Girl actress attended a fashion event by Chanel in NYC on June 9, 2025.

She wore a white crochet dress and was also seen posing with a friend in front of the paparazzi before entering the event.

The same day, Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed the $400 million lawsuit that Blake Lively's co-star and It Ends with Us director Justin Baldoni filed against her after she filed a s*xual harassment lawsuit against Baldoni last year.

However, this wasn’t the only dismissal that Judge Liman signed off on. He also terminated the director's $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times. Baldoni’s dismissed lawsuit against Blake Lively and Reynolds had claims of defamation amidst several accusations. Judge Liman’s statement read:

“The alleged facts indicate that the Times reviewed the available evidence and reported, perhaps in a dramatized manner, what it believed to have happened. The Times had no obvious motive to favor Lively's version of events.”

According to the BBC, Baldoni claimed in his lawsuit that Lively took control of the film by refusing to promote it and falsely accused him of sexual assault, damaging his reputation.

However, the judge ruled that her actions didn’t count as extortion or defamation, since renegotiating work terms is legal and her statements were part of a protected lawsuit. Blake Lively’s lawyers upheld this decision by the court and said it was a “complete vindication” for the actress and others involved.

What did Blake Lively say following the lawsuit dismissal?

Following the news, the actress took to her Instagram stories and shared a statement, writing that she proudly supported 19 organizations that were working together to protect women's right to speak about their safety.

Blake Lively explained that she, like many others, had experienced the difficulty of a lawsuit meant to get back at someone, including the false shame that tries to silence people.

Even though the lawsuit against her was unsuccessful, she noted that many people do not have the money or help needed to fight back. Blake Lively wrote:

“I'm more resolved than ever to continue to stand for every woman's right to have a voice in protecting themselves, including their safety, their integrity, their dignity and their story.”

She added:

“With love and gratitude for the many who stood by me, many of you I know. Many of you I don't. But I will never stop appreciating or advocating for you.”

Charlie Stadtlander, a spokesperson for The New York Times, shared his sentiments about the court's decision. He said the court understood the lawsuit had no real basis and was an attempt to stop truthful reporting. The statement also mentioned that their journalists reported on an important public story fairly.

The court acknowledged that the law is meant to protect this type of journalism. The spokesperson added that they would continue to defend their journalism and their journalists in court when their work is challenged.
