The Brown family has had several overlapping relationships over the years. Janelle revealed that her late mother, Sheryl Usher, later married Kody’s father, Winn Brown. This happened after Janelle joined the family.

Janelle recalled that her mother initially wanted to protect her from polygamy.

She said, “My mom came to save me from the polygamists.”

However, her mother later chose to join the same lifestyle.

Sheryl and Winn married in 1992 and remained together until Winn’s death in 2013. Janelle confirmed her own separation from Kody in December 2022.

The same episode also showed Kody meeting with Meri Brown as part of his apology tour. Their conversation was tense.

Kody said, “I apologize that I am toxic to you or was toxic to you.”
