Kim Kardashian is in the middle of a controversy after PETA, which stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, called out the Skims founder for gifting dogs to her children as a Christmas present.

Kim Kardashian is a mother to four children, North, Chicago, West, and Psalm, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Kanye West. She took to her Instagram stories to share that the dogs were Christmas presents for each of her children.

Along with Kim, her sister Khloe also shared videos and photos of a small black retriever puppy on Instagram, which she got as a Christmas gift.

A puppy seller, Rolly Teacup Puppies Korea, also shared the dog's video on Instagram, mentioning Kim with the caption:

"Thank you for being a part of our @rollypups.official family ❤️ We hope we brought lots of love and joy to your loved ones 🥰"

The president of PETA slams Kim Kardashian

After Kim shared the news, Ingrid Newkirk, president of PETA, slammed Kim Kardashian in a statement shared by People, where she said:

"Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that."

She added:

"[They can] try to make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter or paying for a local shelter adopt-a-thon or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis."

As of now, Kim Kardashian has not publicly addressed Ingrid Newkirk's comments or responded to the criticism started by the Christmas gift controversy.

However, this is not the first time she has shared the news of a new puppy. In 2019, she shared a photo of a white Pomeranian and a black Pomeranian with the caption:

"Meet our new babies! We just need names! North came up with names that go with our other Pomeranian Sushi. She wants white baby girl to be named Saké and the black baby boy either Soba (Noodle) or Soy Sauce. Please comment below any ideas you have!!!!"

Earlier, PETA even named a cow after her following her decision to go vegan. Sharing the news, they wrote on social media:

"Meet Kimberly Kowdashian PETA India is naming this beautiful rescued mother cow after famous mom Kim K. for Mother’s Day Kim shows compassion to moms of all species by sharing her vegan life with her family & 200+ million followers"
