Snoop Dogg has made headlines recently for his comments over the 2022 movie, Lightyear. On August 20, he appeared on the It’s Giving podcast and told host Sarah Fontenot about the time he watched the film with his grandson. The movie features a queer couple, and Dogg’s grandson asked him how two women could have kids.

Following his comments, the clip from the podcast went viral across social media platforms. When Hollywood Unlocked posted the news on its Instagram page, the rapper reportedly commented on it, saying:

“I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons. All my gay friends no what's up they been calling me with love my bad for not knowing the answers for a 6 yr old teach me how to learn I'm not perfect.”

However, according to a report by AllHipHop, Snoop Dogg never made that comment, as claimed by his representative. Moreover, the person who made the fabricated comment is yet to be found out. Per Deadline, the rep said:

“It is a fake.”

The post under which the comment was found was about actress Ts Madison’s reaction to his comment. In the video, an interview with TMZ, Madison said that Snoop Dogg’s music videos feature unclothed women. She asked how that kind of lesbian behavior was justified in his work when he had a problem with the movie. Madison also said it was the duty of parents to explain everything to their children.

Exploring Laren Gunderson’s comment about the movie amidst Snoop Dogg’s comment controversy

Following the controversy over Snoop Dogg’s comment, film writer Lauren Gunderson explained why she decided to keep a queer couple. She wrote that in 2018, she worked as a writer at Pixar, which she thought was an amazing place. She felt thankful for the job and said she learned a lot from the talented and kind people there. She further explained:

“As we wrote early versions of what became LIGHTYEAR, a key character needed a partner, and it was so natural to write "she" instead of "he." As small as that detail is in the film, I knew the representational effect it could have. Small line, big deal. I was elated that they kept it. I'm proud of it. To infinity. Love is Love.”

During the podcast with Sarah Fontenot, Snoop Dogg said that when his grandson asked him the question, he was unsure what he would reply. He told Fontenot:

“I' m scared to go to the movies. Like y'all throwing me in the middle of sh*t that I don't have an answer for.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Snoop Dogg explained that real love could soften someone and bring out their gentle side. He said that even though he always acted tough, people could still feel his kindness, care, and emotions. He mentioned that others had seen him cry, laugh, and show love with his wife, and that didn’t make him weak but stronger.
