Highlander reboot has been anticipated by fans for a while. The film will be helmed by Chad Stahelski, and it will bring a new version of the franchise to a new set of audiences. The film will have Henry Cavill in the lead role, and the director has recently dropped an interesting update regarding the same.

Stahelski is known for directing the John Wick franchise films. He has appeared in the latest documentary film Wick Is Pain, which chronicles the making of the first John Wick film. During its promotions, Stahelski spilled the beans on the Highlander reboot. Let's find out what he said.

Chad Stahelski teases news on Henry Cavill's Highlander reboot

Chad Stahelski recently gave an interview to Collider while promoting Wick Is Pain. He revealed a major update about the Highlander reboot and said:

“If everything works out in the next 24 hours, we'll be shooting sometime in September. And in 2027 or 2028, you’ll be watching Highlander.”

The film has been in development for a while, and in 2021, it was announced that Henry Cavill would be attached to it. As per a Collider report published on June 30, 2024, its shooting was supposed to begin in January 2025, in Scotland. However, with the release date set sometime in either 2027 or early 2028, the shooting is now slated to begin in September.

In an earlier interview, Stahelski spoke about the film's action, which relies on swords and not guns, unlike John Wick. He said,

“I'll keep it to the core. Most audiences, I'll use the gun analogy, most of what you know about gunfights or car chases, because most of us don't get involved in gun fights, or car chases, or sword fights, we learn through movies. And what those movies show you is about 95% bulls*it. You don't fight 50 guys with your bare hands and then walk away, but it's fun. It’s wish fulfillment."

He continued,

"So John Wick, we know it's a cartoon — I know it's not — but we also have fun with it. But we do tactical reloads, we try to do fire manipulations, stuff like the professionals do, the military do. But then we have fun with it, you know? Sword work is very much the same.”

He added,

"There's some very interesting sword styles out there, but most of the time, we don't have a lot of time, or we don't have access to some people, or the cast members…sometimes you only have three or four days, or three or four weeks to train the cast member. Actors are no different than you. If you have become an NBA basketball player, could you do it in three weeks? Could you do it in three months?"
