James Gunn just gave the DC world a glossy little tease as the director posted a first look at the script for his highly anticipated sequel, Man of Tomorrow. The cover image already has fans reading between the lines and trying to look for any Easter Eggs for the film. The photo shows an anatomical cross-section of a head with a prominent brain illustration. Underneath it, there's a text that says Gunn's name and a date of September 22, 2025, calling it the film's second draft.

The photo might be a reference to a major Easter Egg, as speculations were active recently about Brainiac being the lead antagonist of the next film. Gunn himself had admitted that he considered Brainiac to be the villain for Superman, but eventually decided against it.

A behind-the-scenes look at the film's making also featured an illustration of the villain alongside Superman and Supergirl, fueling more rumors about Brainiac's future in DC. Seeing all that, it's quite possible that the anatomical brain is a reference to whatever adventure awaits our Krypton hero on his next journey.

James Gunn is playing ringmaster for the DC universe once again, and his latest trick is shaping up to give his 2025 big hit, Superman, a perfect sequel. Gunn has confirmed that he's working on Man of Tomorrow, a new chapter for Clark Kent, right at the center, with Lex Luthor alongside.

The project was first teased in June 2025, when he revealed that he was writing a Superman-adjacent film that would expand on the "Super-family." By August, David Zaslav had confirmed that Gunn would be writing and directing the project, with the official title dropping on September 3.

The director has opened up about the film's premise while he made an appearance on The Ringer-Verse, where he said,

"The story in Man of Tomorrow is slightly tonally different from Superman… Superman’s more comic-booky in some ways than Man of Tomorrow, and it has to do with the dual characters of Lex and Superman at the center of Man of Tomorrow and other things."

Putting more emphasis on Lex, Gunn added,

"There's something, despite everything, that is incredibly heroic about Lex. Take aside morality, which is hard to do, but here is this guy who’s saying, 'You can hold up a building. You can shoot down planes with your eyes. F*ck you, I'm going to kick your a*s because I'm better than you.’ I can't help but admire his tenacity and his ego. I mean, his ambition is beyond compare."

Not much is known about the film's plot and cast, but we do know that David Corenswet is returning as Superman, along with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Isabella Merced has hinted at Hawkgirl's comeback, and fans are still waiting for confirmation about the rest of the Justice Gang.

Man of Tomorrow will be in theaters on July 9, 2027.
