Georgina Chapman reveals why boyfriend Adrien Brody tossed gum before best actor Oscar speech

In a recent article by Page Six, actor Adrien Brody's girlfriend Georgina Chapman explained why her boyfriend tossed gum at her during his famous Academy Award acceptance speech.

Actor Adrien Brody was awarded the Academy Award in the best actor category this year. While climbing the steps of the stage, Brody threw his gum around seven feet or so towards Chapman to catch before accepting the honor from Cilian Murphy.

This raised many eyebrows and questioned Brody's behavior towards his girlfriend. The New York Times even had an article titled “Was That Gum He Tossed From the Oscars Stage?” and called it one of the strangest moments of this year's Oscars.

To this Chapman finally broke the silence and revealed to Page Six that Brody was being misunderstood and things were a little different than they appeared to be.

“I asked him to do it, I saw him standing there, I could see that moment of panic on his face. He was really like, ‘Wow, I shouldn’t be having gum." Georgina Chapman told Page Six at the Family Equality Gala.

Chapman said she told Brody to toss the gum to her and that would not look good if the actor chewed gum while giving his award acceptance speech.

“I forgot I was chewing gum, and I can’t [chew gum in a] thank you speech” said Brody.

Brody's acceptance speech lasted for five minutes. The actor made headlines again for not getting off-stage even after the cue of cut-off music.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Chapman admitted that she was shocked to know many accusing Weinstein of sexual harrasment in October 2017.

"There was a part of me that was terribly naive—clearly, so naive. I have moments of rage, I have moments of confusion, I have moments of disbelief!" Chapman told Vogue in 2018.

Georgina Chapman was first linked to Brody in the year 2019. Chapman was by Brody's side when he collected two trophies simultaneously Academy Awards for his stunning portrayal of a World War II refugee in the film The Brutalist.
