Recently, American Idol Judges Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood shared their thoughts on Katy Perry's controversial Blue Origin Space Trip. According to reports, Lionel Richie shared that his initial reaction to the news was to say get out of the capsule, out of concern because he is just not a big fan of the phrase ‘Never happened before.’ Both Carrie Underwood and Richie seem to have no intention of following Perry's suit.

According to multiple reports, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood shared with Access Hollywood their thoughts on Katy Perry's controversial space trip. As reported by the Daily Mail, Lionel Richie expressed that he was initially concerned about the trip.
Richie said,
"My first impression was, "Get out the capsule." It’s not that anything was going to go wrong. It’s just that I don’t like the phrase, "Never happened before." So I said, 'You go right on girl.'"
He further answered when asked if he'd ever go to space that,
"I'm having trouble navigating Earth and gravity. Just walking straight every day is a daunting task at the point in my life".
Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood shared with Access Hollywood that the day she would go to space is when "good lord" decides to take her "home."
'The day I go to space will be when the good Lord decides my time on Earth here is done and he takes me home. So, that will be the day I leave this Earth.
On April 14, 2025, Katy Perry and other women, including Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez, went on a short space expedition. The expedition reportedly lasted for about 11 minutes. Katy Perry was part of Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin's first-ever all-women mission to space.
Carrie Underwood was not ABC's first choice to be an American Idol judge
According to the US Sun, a production insider revealed that Carrie Underwood was not ABC's first pick as the Judge for American Idol season 23. The network reportedly wanted an A-list pop star to replace Katy Perry, who announced her departure from the show in February 2024.

The Sun further reports that Carrie's casting as judge was not unanimous, as the 'network executives and producers were not all on the same page'.

They spoke with a handful of other A-list artists in pop and country before landing on Carrie. It was not a unanimous decision,
