Professional yoga instructor and author, Hilaria Baldwin, who also happens to be actor/producer Alec Baldwin's wife, addressed the 2020 fake Spanish language controversy in her new memoir Manual Not Included, which was released on May 6, 2025. The yoga instructor turned entrepreneur also discussed the tough times she faced in her marriage with her husband, Alec.

Hilaria opened up about a bunch of public controversies in Manual Not Included; however, the most significant would be the one regarding the 2020 fake Spanish language and the allegations that were made against her, being born and raised in Boston, which in some way disqualified her from being a genuine Spanish speaker.

In her memoir, Hilaria touched upon the controversy about how she identifies as a Spaniard, despite being raised in America as a Bostonian. However, the 41-year-old author, Hilaria, who is also a podcaster, explained that the reason behind her frequently fluctuating Spanish language is due to neurodivergence. She also stated that she has ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) and dyslexia.

Hilaria in Manual Not Included confessed that:

"(Her) brain just works differently."

And added:

"And these [diagnoses] greatly impact my speech, my reading, my listening, my focus, my memory and my self-confidence".

The above-mentioned quote is from Hilaria's new memoir, written by her in an excerpt, which was obtained by Page Six. However, Hilaria claimed that she never discussed all these controversies publicly until she wrote her book. She further went ahead and explained herself in relation to the whole Spanish language issue. Hilaria said:

"I have a brain that is one part English, one part Spanish, seven dollops of mom brain, and a heavy pour of distraction. If only you knew how loud it is in my brain at any given moment. I just existed in a land where sometimes I spoke one language and sometimes I spoke another, sometimes I mixed them and got mixed up, and I never talked about my processing differences."

Later, Hilaria talked about how her brain "works differently" when writing. She added:

"I can really succeed in the right environments and tasks."

The entrepreneur turned author, Hilaria, in her book, shared that she went through a rough time when she was accused of faking her accent. She claimed that the whole matter affected her mental health. Hilaria added:

"I was confused. I felt lost. I missed my family. I couldn't eat. I got very thin. I started to question my sanity. I started to question if I was a good person."

However, Hilaria stated that her husband, Alec, helped her a lot in overcoming those difficult times.
