What did Sarah Sherman say about her character Sarah Squirm?

In the exclusive with PEOPLE, Sarah Sherman got candid and revealed how close she felt to her character, Sarah Squirm. In her words, the concept of "gross" is "inseparable from being alive."

She added that being on the Sarah Squirm: Live + in the Flesh show feels like being in a cartoon show:

"And so much of the special is like, I'm a living cartoon, and maybe that's a little bit of what the Sarah Squirm character is... It's like a living cartoon, but she's very much alive and made of flesh and bones and skin and guts and that's ... yeah."

Despite the show's gross aspects, Sarah also noted that it contains relatable issues. She said:

"... that's another thing, the relatability of the special, it's like I'm talking about things that everyone can relate to. I don't have some gross disease that 1% of the population has. I have the gross disease of having too much body hair."

One of Bowen and Sarah's popular episodes together is "The Waking Up Sketch." Bowen plays the role of "Doctor Jim," and Sarah is the wife of Pedro Pascal's best friend.
