Drug allegations have come up in the court case involving Matt Wright. Wright is facing charges related to the investigation of a fatal helicopter crash in February 2022. The crash happened during a crocodile egg-collecting mission and killed Chris Wilson, as per The Canberra Times.
According to The Lismore News, the pilot involved in the crash, Sebastian Robinson, was cross-examined about his past drug use while giving evidence in the Northern Territory Supreme Court. Wright’s defense barrister enquired about Robinson's use of cocaine and whether it affected his flying.
The case itself is not about drug use. It focuses on Matt Wright’s alleged actions after the crash and whether he tried to interfere with the investigation.

According to The Lismore News in a report published on August 14, 2025, while Robinson was in the witness box, the defense barrister asked about his lifestyle and past habits. The barrister claimed that Robinson was a “party animal” and a regular cocaine user.
Robinson denied being a heavy user but admitted using cocaine “maybe a couple of times a year” in the five years before the accident, as per a report published in The Nightly.
He strongly denied flying under the influence of drugs or alcohol. When asked directly if he was a “raging cocaine junkie,” Robinson replied, “Not at all”. Robinson also told the court he could not remember his drug use in the days before the crash.
According to ABC News, the case revolves around Matt Wright, who has pleaded not guilty to three counts of obstructing the course of justice, after a fatal helicopter crash in the Northern Territory's remote Arnhem Land in 2022.
The pilot involved in the crash was Sebastian Robinson, who was left paraplegic post-accident. The crash also left Chris "Willow" Wilson killed in the crash.
