3 Doors Down frontman Brad Arnold has reportedly been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer, which he shared on Monday. The 45-year-old musician broke the news on May 7 in an Instagram video that he posted, revealing that he received the diagnosis following an illness that took hold a couple of weeks earlier.

According to him, testing subsequently showed that he had clear cell renal cell carcinoma that had already spread to his lungs.

As Arnold grapples with this new health struggle, the past few years of his personal journey have also not been easy, particularly his choice to get sober, which he’s publicly talked about many times.

According to an article by Blabbermouth, Brad Arnold celebrated his 8 years of sobriety on January 19, 2024. He celebrated the achievement with fans in a heartfelt post that included his AA sobriety medallion.

"I feel like a different person than I did eight years ago…..and it feels so good. Without question, God took that burden from me. I was so tired of carrying it." He captioned the post.

Brad Arnold’s journey to recovery supposedly started with a turning point on a trip to Japan a few years ago, while the band was playing for American troops.

Due to his struggles with anxiety, Arnold reportedly started drinking alcohol and consuming prescription Valium to cope with it. Arnold said he was completely dissociated from himself, and it was his fellow 3 Doors Down band members who inspired him to get his life back together.

"Greg, our drummer, and Chris, our guitar player, had both been through treatment as well, and they're both in recovery...And just seeing him and Greg and how happy they were in their lives, I said, 'Man, I want that!'" He said in an interview with WRIF's Meltdown.

More about Brad Arnold's struggle with alcohol addiction and his recent cancer diagnosis

Brad Arnold has spoken openly about how he was once completely dependent on alcohol to live his everyday life. But he soon realized it did more harm to him than good.

"The biggest thing about it was I could trace almost every problem in my life to alcohol, even while I was drinking. I got to a point that I knew that I was drinking too much." Brad told the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Brad Arnold also stated that he had a family history of alcoholism, which was the main reason for him to quit alcohol.

"My daddy has two brothers that both died from alcohol. My dad didn't drink, and my daddy has long outlived his brothers." He said.

Brad Arnold's recent cancer diagnosis has caused the band to cancel its summer tour dates, a decision Arnold said was not easy to take. Despite his serious health issues, Arnold was peaceful and confident in his message. He also requested his fans to keep him in their prayers.

"Thank you for all the memories so far. Now, I believe “ITS NOT MY TIME” is really my song. This’ll be a battle so we need our prayers warriors!" He wrote.
