On December 9, the New York Post published an exclusive report mentioning that broadcast journalist Tony Dokoupil has been picked as the anchor for CBS Evening News. A source familiar with the update mentioned that an official notification will be released soon. The news of Dokoupil taking over the news slot comes days after Maurice DuBois announced that he would exit the network.

Dokoupil is known for hosting CBS Mornings alongside Nate Burleson and Gayle King. This show is reported to be revamped, as per the source. According to his LinkedIn profile, Tony Dokoupil holds a BBA degree from The George Washington University School of Business. He completed an MA degree in American Studies from Columbia University. About his academic career, he wrote:

“I have a masters degree in American Studies from Columbia University, and I earned a fellowship towards a PhD in media studies...before dropping out after two years to pursue journalism. It's unclear whether this was the best or worst decision of my life.”

Tony Dokoupil worked as a Senior Writer at Newsweek and The Daily Beast from 2007 to 2013. He was also an author at Random House for five years. In 2013, he joined NBC News as a Senior Writer and worked there for a little more than two years. He was also the National Reporter and Correspondent at MSNBC.

The broadcast journalist was married twice. He shares two children with his unnamed first wife, who stays in Israel. In 2017, he married author and journalist Katy Tur and they have been together for almost eight years. They have two children.

Tony Dokoupil and Katy Tur recall a light-hearted moment from the COVID-19 pandemic

In 2022, Katy Tur published her book, Rough Draft: A Memoir. She discussed her work with Tony Dokoupil on CBS Mornings. Tony read a part of the book where Katy explained that, because she didn’t like tight or closed-in spaces and because of how her marriage was, she had learned how to stay calm and act normal on live TV even when her husband was burping, farting, or sleeping right next to where she was filming.

Tony Dokoupil told Katy:

“I'm a network television anchor and this is how you describe me okay.”

Recalling the day, Katy said:

“So, both of our cameras are down there you're down there sleeping on the floor for some reason not on a couch or in our bed you are deciding to sleep on the floor.”

Tony Dokoupil said this was because the children won’t bother him. However, Katy said it could be because he wanted to be closer to her. He said she was right about it. Katy went on to say:

“I think I’m doing a really hard interview a very sad interview in the middle of the pandemic. Everything is awful and you are sitting in a plastic chair off to my side you just like you're alone let one rip and it reverberates off the plastic like you're doing it into a speaker and the whole room can hear it I'm positive that you could hear it through my microphone.”

She mentioned that at the time, the room smelled horrible and she tried hard not to laugh.
